Barooga squads for Victoria Under-19 Country and Metro announced

Victoria has announced the four squads to partake in the 2016 Barooga Country v Metro Under-19 trial series.

The tournament will be played from 19 to 22 September, with two Twenty20 and two one-day fixtures across the week, played on dual grounds at Barooga CC.

Featuring four sides, Victoria Country Green and White as well as Victoria Metro Blue and Silver, the series will provide an opportunity for the players to showcase their skills in front of a wide range of coaches and selectors.

Those successful across the series, which will also test the players’ skills, game sense, travel management and ability to interact in a close team environment, will take part in the National Championships in December, providing another opportunity to perform on a national stage.

In addition, club cricket performances in October will also be followed closely in the lead up to the final squad announcement in late October.

All these factors combined with the ability that will be on display will lead to an exciting week of cricket according to Under-19 Country coach Graeme Rummans.

“Barooga is a great lead into the season with a full week of cricket at fantastic facilities,” said Rummans.

“It’s provides another opportunity for the boys to be selected for the national carnival, which adds a little bit of pressure to perform, but all in all is a great week to get themselves prepared for the season ahead.

“All four teams have strong line-ups featuring a few new boys to the Barooga series, as well as a number of players returning who know what it’s all about.

“This mix should provide for an exciting experience for everyone, and adequately prepare those selected in the finals squads for the National Championships.”
