Underwood and Wright nominated for Future Star Award
Matthew Underwood and Maddie Wright are the February nominees for the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award.
Underwood scored his maiden first XI century against Monash Tigers in the final round, amassing 133 after opening the batting.
He also captained Victoria Country to the Final at the Under-19 National Championships, as a bottom aged player, where he posted 128 against Victoria Metro in the second round.
Wright claimed her best figures of the Premier season for Prahran against Plenty Valley when she took 4-20 in a match-winning performance.
Wright was also a member of the title winning Victorian under-18 side where she played every match and captured seven wickets at an average of 11.71.
It has been a successful year for Wright who led East Metro to victory in the Under-18 National Championships Final with an unbeaten 38 and 1-12.
Introduced in 2005-06, the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award is presented each season to the best under-19 Victorian male and female player based on the their form at Premier Cricket level and at the National Championships, with nominations selected by a panel of committee members on a monthly basis.
Past winners of the award include Aaron Finch, Meg Lanning and Jessica Cameron, who have all represented Australia.
The winners of the Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award will be crowned at the Cricket Victoria State Awards at the end of March.
