Vic women’s unbeaten at Imparja Cup

The Victorian Women's Imparja Cup team has continued the state's winning streak after claiming two wins at the national tournament in Alice Springs.

Two dominant opening partnerships from Jacinta Goodger-Chandler and Fiona Hale saw the Victorians claim victories over the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

Opening their 2015 campaign against Northern Territory, the Victorians won the toss and sent their opponents into bat.

Natalie Plane and Fiona Hale struck early dismissing openers Melanie Driscoll (4) and Sally Moylan (2) respectively.

Carmella Gray tried to steady the Northern Territory ship with a 61-run knock, however, the wickets continued to fall around her and soon the team were all out for 88 in the 20th over.

Wickets were shared between the Victorian bowlers with Plane (2-11), Kareena Jacobsen-Logan (2-18), Hale (2-23), Renee Melton (1-3), Jess Martin (1-16) and Goodger-Chandler (1-17) all claiming scalps.

In reply, a 69-run opening stand from Goodger-Chandler (33) and Hale set up Victoria’s win before Hale was caught for 25.

Captain Melton joined Goodger-Chandler at the crease to secure the nine-wicket win.

In their second game of the tournament, Victoria won the toss and elected to bat with Goodger-Chandler (56) and Hale (27) again combining for a big opening partnership, this time for a record 77.

Seventeen-year-old Goodger-Chandler played beautifully to bring up her half-century leading the Victorians to a convincing 58-run win.

The Victorian Women’s Imparja Cup team will face New South Wales today while the men’s team come up against Western Australia and Tasmania.
