Cricket Victoria has today announced the Under-17 Country and Metro trial squads for the 2017-18 season.
The squads have been selected based on a combination of Under-16 State Championships and 15-and-under School Sport Australia (SSA) National Championships performances, as well as player talent and region nominations.
Mackenzie Harvey (Metro) and Paddy Rowe (Country) have been named after representing Victoria and in turn Cricket Australia Under-17 XI in last season's Under-19 National Championships.
Training sessions will be conducted throughout June-July at the MCG and Maribyrnong College, and will include skills, game sense, strength and conditioning, nutrition and mental skill components.
Ahead of phase two, squads will be reduced at which point further training sessions and trial matches will be conducted before final teams are picked in mid-August.
The program has recently seen the likes of Will Sutherland, Mitch Perry and Zak Evans all develop their games and go on to represent Australia at an underage level - highlighting the success of the Victorian pathway and journey to the elite.
Congratulations also to Victorians Jake Fraser-McGurk and Yash Pednekar who have been selected in this year's Cricket Australia Under-16 XI following strong performances at the 15-and-under National Championships.
This year, the Cricket Australia Under-17 National Championships are being held in the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane from September 25 - October 5.
