Victorians part of successful Australian sweep of the Indoor Cricket Trans-Tasman Series
A dominant Australia has won all four divisions of the 2016 Indoor Cricket Trans-Tasman Series in Port Macquarie, New South Wales.
The tournament finished on Saturday, with Australia’s Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Under-22 Men’s and Under 22 Women’s teams all winning best-of-five series against New Zealand.
Three of the series wins were clean sweeps, with Australia’s Open Women’s, Under-22 Men’s and Under-22 Women’s all coming away with 5-0 victories.
Victorians were also strongly represented across each of the teams, and enjoyed fruitful performances across the series.
Adelaide Campion and Maddie Wright (Under-22 Women) were consistent performers with bat and ball respectively, with Campion claiming 7 wickets and conceding just 15 runs while Wright scored 49 runs across her four matches with a strike rate of 110.19.
Briony Polkinghorne was yet again a strong performer, scoring 58 runs as well as 5 wickets in the Open Women division. Fellow teammate Jess Surace scored 38 runs in her two games, including an impressive knock of 23 at a strike rate of 153.33.
Justin Perkins was a key strike bowler in the Open Men’s side, taking four wickets at an average of 2.5, as well as scoring 53 runs with the bat across the series.
Head Coach of the Australian Open Men’s side, Ross Gregory, was pleased with another dominant display by Australia, particularly after all the hard work invested into developing the Women’s sides.
“It was another successful event for Australian Indoor Cricket, and showed our dominance in the sport internationally,” said Gregory.
“The skill level on show across all divisions was exceptional, and seeing the women’s sides perform so well in particular was a credit to the players and officials involved, and also really reflected the investment we have made to females in sport over a period of time.”
Cricket Australia’s Indoor Cricket Manager, Paul Milo, was impressed by the form of each Australian side ahead of next year’s Indoor Cricket World Cup.
“It was great to see such a high level of skill on show from some of the world’s best indoor cricketers,” Milo said.
“From an Australian perspective, the strong results were a positive sign, with this being the only international tournament for our players this year, heading into next year’s Indoor Cricket World Cup in Dubai.
