David Hussey Talks Cricket
For me, summer in Melbourne means one thing – cricket at the MCG.
Whether it’s playing for my beloved DEC Bushrangers in the Sheffield Shield or Ford Ranger Cup, the heavy hitting action of the KFC T20 Big Bash or the famous Boxing Day Test- there is no better place to be then the ‘G.
I’m proud every time I get the opportunity to pull on the big ‘V’ for the Vics and love the fact that I live in the sporting capital of Australia.
Being able to play on the MCG - the home of cricket – is an absolute honour, and I think everyone should experience the glory of the ‘G and what it feels like to sit in the stands of the great cauldron.
The other thing that is great about Melbourne is that it doesn’t matter where you live – country, city or in the ‘burbs – public transport allows us all to stay connected.
Melbourne is the home of the largest tram network in the world and the train network keeps more than 201 million car journeys off our roads, saving over one million tonnes of greenhouses gas emissions each year.
The MCG is surrounded by public transport, making it an easy destination for you and your family to travel to. So this summer, why don’t you ask mum or dad to catch a tram, train or a bus to the ‘G instead of driving.
You’ll be doing your bit for the environment and it’s quick and easy!
You can use the journey planner at metlinkmelbourne.com.au to plan your public transport route to the MCG.
Metlink is a big supporter of Victorian cricket and provides the opportunity for aspiring young cricketers to attend clinics with me and my teammates.
There are two coming up in the January school holidays:
- Tuesday 12 January 2010 at the MCG
- Thursday 21 January 2010 at Camberwell Magpies CC.
As a bonus, if you catch public transport to the Metlink Mega Kids Clinic at the MCG, you can go in the draw to win a 13th Man experience when the DEC Bushrangers play the PKF Tasmanian Tigers.
Simply hold on to your public transport ticket and enter at the clinic. The prize includes free tickets to the twenty20 match on Friday 15 January, VIP seats on the boundary and snacks and refreshments.
Check out the registration details here and hopefully I’ll see you there!
