New Gippsland regional cricket hub opened in Moe

The $3.5 million facility is based at Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe and incorporates a new five lane indoor facility designed for high performance training and indoor cricket play, Cricket Victoria administration hub, change facilities, storage and outdoor turf training facilities.

Cricket Victoria CEO Andrew Ingleton said the project was the second of eight regional venues to be developed to service the needs of both community cricket and performance pathways throughout country Victoria.

“What a fantastic day for Moe and the wider Latrobe Valley. This new $3.5 million facility will be a focal point for cricket in the region and help us continue to grow the game from the grassroots through to elite levels.”

“I’d like to thank the Victorian Government, Latrobe City Council, Latrobe Valley Authority and Cricket Australia for their support in delivering this major regional project. We look forward to supporting the local cricket community to develop the next generation of Latrobe Valley cricketers using this wonderful new facility.”

Mayor of Latrobe City Council Cr Dan Clancey said “The development of Ted Summerton Reserve further enhances our liveability as a regional City by providing facilities for the community that they need to continue to grow and thrive.”

“This dedicated facility is not only for performance and development of cricketing talent but is focused on supporting the participation of those at grassroots level and allowing individuals to pursue their sporting or recreational passion across a range of sports and community activities.”

“Sporting clubs are the heart and soul of local communities. Playing sport not only gets people active and healthy it gets them out into our community which is integral for individual mental health and wellbeing,” Cr Clancey said.

Cricket Victoria Cricket Manager – Gippsland Shannon Small said it was an exciting day for cricket in the region.

“With the opening of this centre, it means all levels of cricket will have the facilities and tools to train and develop at the highest level. The future is very bright for Gippsland cricket, with this centre being able to complement the already great work being done in many areas of cricket within Gippsland,” Small said.

The unveiling of the new Gippsland facility follows the recent opening of a new Regional Cricket Centre in Ballarat in late November.
