School girls forum a big success

Rohan O’Neil, general manager of game and market development at Cricket Victoria said, “With the beginning of the Women’s Big Bash League upon us, it was great to be able to offer this opportunity for year 7 and 8 girls to grow and develop their leadership skills through cricket.”

Matti Clements from Mental Edge consulting created the content for the day which this year saw the inclusion of an online component which girls completed with the support of a parent or coach.

“This year the girls came into the day with the prior learning from the online modules which really set the scene and extended them on their leadership journey” said Clements.

The day consisted of four leadership workshops delivered by guest presenters from a range of sporting backgrounds.

This year’s panel discussions saw a great calibre of leaders in Australian sport sharing their experiences and challenges they faced in their sporting and leadership journeys. The panel consisted of Mel Jones, Linley Frame, Tony Dodemaide, Rowie Webster and Jess Cameron.

School Sport Victoria have been strong supporters of this day for two years running. ‘It’s great to see so many young female leaders being given the opportunity to participate in such a great initiative in a time of real growth in female sport.’ said Ian Landy from School Sport Victoria.

Clements was keen to provide professional development for the teachers involved in the day and this year introduced a session entitled ‘using emotional intelligence for more effective outcomes within the workplace’. This session was received well from the teachers in attendance and was a real added bonus to an already successful day.”
