Victoria bows out

Entering the round with one win and three losses, the Victorians needed to defeat Western Australia to keep a finals berth alive.

Having won the toss and electing to bat, Western Australia got off to a good start with opener Michael Bailey notching 48 runs from 37 balls.

Despite an even bowling display from the Victorians, the Western Australians managed to reach a target of 5-139 after 20 overs.

In reply, a significant Victorian batting order collapse saw the team bowled out for just 59, with young Damon Egan top scoring with an unbeaten 21.

In the girls’ division, Victoria faced the dominant New South Wales.

After losing the toss and being sent into field, Victoria was immediately put on the back foot with the NSW openers combining for a 92-run partnership.

The young Victorian team fought hard with the ball with Jacinta Goodger-Chandler (2-9) and Merinda Hale (2-19) leading the way.

After the 20 overs, Victoria restricted NSW to its lowest score of the carnival at 7-143.

In similar fashion to the males, Victoria’s batting order collapsed, completing its 20 overs on 9-44.

The Victorian women’s team will face the Northern Territory in a semi-final today while the boys will complete their campaign against South Australia.
