The project was made possible by an allocation of $10 million from the Victorian Government, including $3 million from the Community Sports Infrastructure Loans Scheme in partnership with Warrnambool City Council.
Through the successful Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund (ACIF), Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia jointly contributed $200,000 towards the project. Reid Oval is one of over 180 infrastructure projects the ACIF has invested in across Victoria since 2018.
Works included redevelopment of the oval, 300 lux lighting, player and umpire amenity upgrades, improved spectator amenities including social areas, cricket training facilities, and the establishment of state and regional sporting association offices.
Now complete, the transformed venue will provide a perfect base to host local and regional competitions, training and development programs.
State Member for Geelong Christine Couzens MP joined Cricket Victoria, Warrnambool City Council and local cricket representatives at the opening.
Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins said the facility would be an important asset to the community in the state’s south west.
“The opening of the newly redeveloped Reid Oval is a real milestone for Warrnambool and for the surrounding communities on the Shipwreck Coast,” Cummins said.
“Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia – in a partnership with the Victorian Government – have worked through a very comprehensive program in recent years to improve cricket facilities across our state. Regardless of where you live in Victoria, we want all our participants to have the best cricket experience possible and having modern and fit-for-purpose facilities goes a long way to reaching that goal.”
Reid Oval is home to Warrnambool District Cricket Association and Nestles Cricket Club, among a range of local clubs and associations.
