Sharon has been involved as a cricket administrator for over 10 years. Sharon started as the manager for her son’s team at Clifton Hill and soon questioned the lack of girls teams at the club. In 2014 the Eastern Cricket Association started the Anna Lanning Shield – a girls only competition – and Clifton Hill, under Sharon’s management, entered 2 of the 5 teams.
The competition has assisted girls cricket significantly grow in the region. Sharon passion for girl’s cricket has led her to be the competition administrator and the competition has grown to 36 teams.
Sharon received her Women in Sport Recognition Award at the RACV City Club, where nearly 400 people heard key note addresses from Dual Olympic Cyclist, Former Hawthorn Football Club CEO and Management Committee of the Union Cycliste Internationale Tracey Gaudry and Head Coach of the Australian Netball Diamonds Lisa Alexander.
Representative for Minister for Sport, Philip Dalidakis MP, and Shadow Minister for Sport Tim McCurdy attended the event and both spoke of their support of the event and women in sport.
The partners who contributed their support to the event included Gymnastics Victoria, Victoria University, Netball Victoria, Cricket Victoria, the Victorian Olympic Council, VicSport, Calisthenics Victoria, Bowls Victoria, Skate Victoria, Squash and Racquetball Victoria, Tennis Victoria, Women Sport Australia and the Victorian State Government.
