Cricket Victoria inducts Life Members

Departing Board members Malcolm Smith and Earl Eddings were honoured for their contribution to Victorian cricket alongside David Kelly, John McConville, Ken Stone, Kevan Carroll, Ross MacKenzie, Jill Crowther, Lorraine Taylor, Sylvia Faram, Robyn Calder and Julie Savage.

Smith served over 22 years in cricket administration as Fitzroy Doncaster’s President from 1991 to 2004, a CV Delegate for 18 years and as a Director since 2000.

After a 232-game career with Northcote and North Melbourne, Eddings was President of the Kangaroos for five seasons, a Delegate for seven years and CV’s representative to Cricket Australia since 2008.

As a stalwart of the Geelong Cricket Club for the past 15 years, Kelly also was bestowed CV life membership.

Long serving members of the Pennant Committee were also honoured with McConville, Stone, Carroll and MacKenzie acknowledged for their significant contribution to the game over the past two decades overseeing the administration of Bartercard Premier Cricket.

Accolades were also forthcoming for key members of the Victorian Women’s Cricket Association (VWCA), with CV recently taking over full governance of the female game.

Crowther, Taylor, Faram, Calder and Savage have been at the forefront of the VWCA’s operations over the past few decades, establishing Victoria as a leader in women’s cricket.

In other news from the meeting, Claudia Fatone has been reinstated to the Board for another three years while Paul Jackson, who was formerly an appointed Director, and former Greenvale Kangaroos President David Maddocks, will fill the remaining elected Director positions vacated by Smith and Eddings.

CV strongly supports the concept of an independent Cricket Australia Board, and is contributing to the acceleration of that by allowing Eddings to stand down ahead of the required timeframe.

For the 2013-14 financial year, the group recorded a profit of $640,494 (company $479,635).

The primary drivers behind the result are surpluses for Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars ($389,519 combined profit), improved CV sponsorship, and the welcome addition of some ‘one-off’ grants related to past agreements with Cricket Australia.

The financial result of the two KFC T20 Big Bash League (BBL) sides was on target with CV’s Strategic Plan which identified BBL|03 as the year where both sides would return a surplus.

There were many highlights in a busy season for CV, including the integration with the VWCA, a world record crowd at the Boxing Day Test and the outstanding progress of the BBL in general, and our Melbourne teams in particular.

A more detailed look at the past 12 months was published in CV’s Annual Report, which was also tabled at the meeting, with a digital copy accessible here.
