Cricket Victoria signs Kookaburra in new partnership

Established in 1890, Kookaburra is 100% Australian owned and operated, and is synonymous with high quality cricket products.

Kookaburra is also the first-choice equipment provider for several of Victoria’s elite male and female cricketers, including Peter Handscomb, Glenn Maxwell, Emma Inglis and Sophie Molineux.

Cricket Victoria Head of Commercial David Lever said the new partnership will help foster further growth and development for the game in Victoria from the grassroots up. 

“We’re pleased to be partnering with Kookaburra not only because of their quality products, but also for their outstanding service to the community and grassroots cricket,” said Lever.

“To be working with Kookaburra, particularly in the cricket ball space, is really important because now we have that consistency from grassroots right through to our elite programs.

“They’re an iconic organisation that share in the values of Cricket Victoria, and we look forward to working with them and building this partnership in the seasons to come.”

Kookaburra Head of Communications Shannon Gill echoed the sentiments of connecting the elite level to the grassroots.

“The Kookaburra ball is the ball of choice for cricketers from grassroots to elite level in Victoria, providing the best balance between batter and bowler,” said Gill.

“That will now be formalised by partnering with Cricket Victoria, complementing our support and supply of many community competitions around the state.

“Kookaburra was born in Victoria in 1890 and proudly resides here in 2017. The Bushrangers have built a dynasty of success in the Sheffield Shield while the VicSpirit have a very exciting young squad that’s ready to make an impact in the WNCL, so we’re proud to be associated with the teams that represent the home of Kookaburra and be the ball supplier to Premier Cricket, the nursery for those teams.” 

“We recently had a group of Bushrangers and VicSpirit players in to the factory and I think they were blown away by the fact that the balls for first class cricket are still made and hand stitched in their own backyard here in Melbourne.”    

Cricket Victoria General Manager Cricket Shaun Graf said the use of Kookaburra balls in Premier Cricket would also assist in the transition of players from club to first-class cricket.

“We are delighted to have Kookaburra, a company that has been involved with cricket for more than a century, supplying balls at Premier Cricket level,” said Graf. 

“It now helps to standardise the kookaburra ball from our junior pathway program to National State competitions, the JLT One-Day Cup and the Sheffield Shield.”
