Cricket Victoria confirms 2024/2025 Women’s Contract List

Cricket Victoria is pleased to announce its women’s contract list for the upcoming 2024/2025 season.

Headlined by six Australian contracted players, the majority of last year’s squad has been retained, with the experienced Sasha Moloney and rising star Hasrat Gill, the two new additions.

Moloney’s signature comes after representing the Melbourne Stars in the past two seasons in the WBBL.

The 32-year-old brings a wealth of top-level experience to Andrew Christie’s squad, having been an important member of the Tasmanian side for more than a decade, including during its recent WNCL three-peat.

Hasrat Gill has earned her inaugural Victorian state contract after an outstanding 2023/2024 campaign for the Melbourne Cricket Club, which led to the rising star being included in the Australian Under-19’s recent tri-series tour against Sri Lanka.

Gill impressed immediately in her international debut, with the eighteen-year-old scoring 40 off 30 deliveries, while also capturing 4-20 against England.

Following her retirement from international cricket, Meg Lanning will look to continue her impressive form in the WNCL, with the 32-year-old scoring a team-high 492 runs at an average of 82 – the highest batting average across the entire competition last season.

Sophie Molineux has been rewarded for a stellar domestic season and a strong tour of Bangladesh, regaining her CA contract alongside Kim Garth, Annabel Sutherland, Tayla Vlaeminck, Georgia Wareham and Ellyse Perry.

Rhiann O’Donnell and Samantha Bates were not offered contracts for the new season.

Cricket Victoria Head of Female Cricket, Sharelle McMahon said:

“After a busy off-season which included some key signings, we can’t wait to welcome our players back to CitiPower Centre and begin preparation for our 2024/2025 campaign,” said McMahon.

“Our squad carries a great blend of youth and experience. Welcoming someone of Sasha Moloney’s calibre will further bolster our leadership stocks, while seeing players such as Poppy Gardner and Milly Illingworth continue to develop alongside Nicole Faltum, Sophie Molineux and Meg Lanning will be exciting to watch.

“We made some positive steps in the back half of last season and we’re confident that we can continue to build on that progress this year.  It’s a big year with the launch of the new national women’s T20 competition providing further playing opportunities for Victorian female cricketers.

“We excited for the opportunity to put in the work this pre-season and start strongly in the spring.”

Players return to pre-season training this week.
