Make a Victorian nomination to re-name the One-Day Cup

The upcoming domestic Men’s One Day competition is fast approaching and with it, comes an incredible opportunity to name the trophy in honour of an Australian cricketing great for the 2024/25 season and beyond.

The Men’s One-Day Cup trophy is awarded each season to our nation’s best men’s fifty-over team.

From today and ahead of the season which gets underway on September 22, CA will invite input and encourage discussion among fans, players, State and Territory Associations, community clubs and media as to which former player should be honoured with their name on the trophy.

Since the competition’s inception back in 1969-70, there have been numerous great names who have graced the field and positioned themselves as legends of the game.

Many of those are proud Victorians.

Who could forget the competition’s leading all-time run scorer, Brad Hodge, who holds multiple domestic records? What about David Hussey? The late great Dean Jones? Cameron White? Or the King, Shane Warne.

How good would it be to have the trophy named after one of these great Victorian players?

Fans can engage in the process through comments on our social media channels, casting their vote on a fan poll or by emailing onedaycup@cricket.com.au.

After the conclusion of the opening round of the competition, CA will release a shortlist of contenders and encourage further discussion before an announcement of the official trophy name before the final on March 1st, 2025.

Key Criteria for the selection process include:

  • An elite record in the domestic Men’s One-Day Cup.
  • A top ODI player for Australia.
  • A player who has had major impact on the game.

Victoria, we need your to help! Vote now to see one our Victorian stars rewarded for their outstanding contributions to the one-day game by engaging with our CA and CV social channels around this initiative or casting your vote on a fan poll or by emailing onedaycup@cricket.com.au. Vote now before the polls close on September 22 .
