Victoria will host the NSW Breakers on Wednesday 10th February and Friday 12th February in their opening state women’s matches for the season.
Cricket Victoria’s General Manager – Cricket Shaun Graf said the decision has been taken in the best interests of the playing groups and support staff and to facilitate appropriate COVID-safe venue management.
“While I know supporters of the Victorian women’s team will be disappointed not to be able to attend the matches, this is the best course of action in the current climate,” Graf said.
“As a boutique venue at the CitiPower Centre, it is difficult for us to separate playing groups from the public on a match day without a significant security presence – whether that be players walking on and off the ground from the changerooms or to warm up in our practice nets. While it’s an unfortunate product of the times we live in, it is safer at this point for the venue to be closed.”
