In the first two rounds of the tournament, Victoria suffered defeats to Queensland and the Australian Capital Territory.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, an unbeaten half-century from Zach Allen saw Queensland reach a total of 8-172 after 50 overs.

With support from Seamus Bolton (2-38) and Jonathan Merlo (2-30), Zachary Mevissen led the Victorian bowling attack, scalping 3-34 from nine overs.

In return, the Victorian batting order collapsed with Jared Sippel claiming 4-21 to restrict Victoria to 82.

Yesterday’s clash against the ACT saw Victoria win the toss and elect to bat.

A 45-run knock from Bradley Melville and contributions from Andrew Young (30*) and Thomas Ewing (25) saw Victoria complete its 50 overs on 7-158.

In reply, a gutsy unbeaten century from Blake MacDonald (103*) saw the ACT surpass the Victorian total to claim victory.

Wickets were shared among the group with Blake Parsons (2-22) and Bailey Eustance (2-28) leading the charge.

“It’s disappointing to not have a win but spirits are still high and hopefully we can finish the week with three wins,” Victorian assistant coach Shane Koop said.

“It’s been a great development opportunity for the boys and it’s important for them to keep learning and challenging themselves.”

Victoria will look for its first win when it faces Western Australia today.
