Fifteen Victorians named in National Rookie Squad

Announced today by Cricket Australia, the entire squad encompasses 52 male players aged between 14 and 17 with all states and territories represented.

The squad has been created with bronze, silver and gold levels that represent current and future playing and training opportunities, and stems from initiatives created as part of the new Australian Cricket Pathway.

Included are the relatives of two former Bushrangers; Mackenzie Harvey, nephew of Ian and Will Sutherland, son of James.

Sutherland will also be joined by fellow Australian Under-16 team members Nathan Murphy, Zac Evans and Fraser Ellis (standby member).

Cricket Victoria State Talent Manager Andrew Lynch acknowledged that the program provided the young cricketers with a good opportunity to further develop their skills.

“Our 15 Victorian cricketers have performed well in our pathway program and have been recognised for their efforts,” Lynch said.

“The boys will be given the chance to develop their skills and will be challenged throughout the course of the program both on and off the field.

“I would like to congratulate all of our boys on their selection and wish them the best in the exciting new program.”
