Heat Waves take nail biter

In a close encounter, the Heat Waves, a combined Western Waves and Mallee Murray Heat team, reached the target at 5-111, with only two balls remaining.

After being sent into bat, the Gippsland Pride’s attack made their intentions known early with under-18 state representative Sophie Molineux top-scoring with an unbeaten 69.

With six boundaries in her knock, the opener led the Pride to a target of 5-110 after 20 overs.

The Heat Waves’ Gemma Gibbons was the pick of the bowlers, scalping 2-23 from four overs.

In return, Makinley Blows got the Heat Waves off to a good start with a 30-run knock including four boundaries.

Gemma Gibbons (16*) also proved handy with the bat, forming partnerships with both Kelsey Perry (12) and Claire Nolte (12*) to provide a final over Championship win for the Heat Waves.

Player of the Match Molineux was also named as Player of the Series as the highest run scorer in the Championships, making 225 at 75 with a top score of 79.

Molineux also claimed eight wickets at 3.88 with a best bowling performance of 4-11.
