Vics close in on semi finals at Under-15 Championships

Both Vic Metro and Vic Country have won two of their three games so far during the pool stages of the competition, sitting second and third on the table respectively.

Vic Country got their campaign off the idea start, scoring a 100-run win against the ACT.

Winning the toss and batting first, captain Todd Murphy (88) and Patrick Rowe (60) guided the Vics to 5-239 from their 50 overs.

Queensland appeared to be in the box seat to chase the total down at 2-88, before losing 8-51 to be bowled out for 139 in the 42^nd over.

James Vlaeminck picked up 3-20 from six tidy overs, while Caleb Serong (2-18) and Matt Harris (2-20) also collected a couple.

Vic Country then defeated the Northern Territory in their second round game.

Winning the toss and batting, a half century to Zane Keighran and contributions from Caleb Serong (29) and Patrick Rowe (28) pushed Victoria to 194 before being bowled out.

The Northern Territory were never in the hunt to chase the total, bowled out for just 73 inside 40 overs.

Jason Cox, Mitchell Davey, Matt Harris and James Vlaeminck all picked up two wickets each as the Country side won their second game for the tournament.

Vic Metro couldn’t start their SSA 15 & Under Championships in the same winning fashion as their fellow Victorians, going down to New South Wales Green.

Winning the toss and batting, the Metro batsman got plenty of starts without anyone being able to push on past 30, bowled out for 141 in the 42^nd over.

Mackenzie Harvey (23) Dulnath Hendawitharana (21) and Triyan De Silva (20) were the main contributors for Vic Metro.

After New South Wales Green collapsed to 5-50, the lower order steadied to get the remaining runs with eight wickets down.

Jakob Woinarski collected 3-33 while De Silva took 2-23 for Victoria.

Vic Metro bounced back in the perfect fashion against Tasmania in their second game however, scoring an eight-wicket win.

After being asked to bowl first by the Tigers, Vic Metro decimated the Tasmanian batting line up to bowl them out for 60.

Matthew Watt took 3-8 while De Silva (2-4), Hendawitharana (1-0), Woinarski (1-10) and Miles Sellenger (1-12) also collecting scalps.

Victoria chased the total down with ease, requiring just 17 overs.

Yesterday saw both Victorian sides go head to head, with Vic Metro claiming bragging rights over their fellow Victorians.

Winning the toss and batting first, Metro’s top order fired with Josh May (45), Mackenzie Harvey (45), Dylan Brasher (39) Dulnath Hendawitharana (24*) and Ryan Peter-Budge (22) pushing Metro’s total to 6-200 at the end of their 50 overs.

Todd Murphy (3-34) and Jordi Withers (2-22) were the best bowlers for Vic Country.

Country’s middle order couldn’t get going in response, after making their way to 1-45 they lost 9-100 to be bowled out for 145 after 43 overs.

Oliver Willet (43) and Caleb Serong (33) led the way for Country, while Dylan Brasher (3-20), Fergus O’Niell (2-18), Triyan De Silva (2-23) and Jakob Woinarski (2-40) were Metro’s best performed bowlers.

Today is a rest day for teams before matches get back underway tomorrow, with Vic Metro playing South Australia and Vic Country playing New South Wales Green.
