Victorian under-18s flying high

Victoria started with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Western Australia, bowling WA out for 73.

Sophie Molineux was the main strike bowler for Victoria picking up figures of 4-9 off her three overs.

Victorian opener Makinley Blows controlled the chase from ball one and batted through the innings to finish 30* off 43 deliveries.

The win gave the girls real momentum heading into their second game of the day against ACT/NSW Country.

Victoria batted first in the second match and put a total of 4-98, before restricting ACT/NSW Country to only 7-93, to hand Victoria their fifth win of the championships.

Hope Irvine was the top scorer for Victoria, striking a well-made 39 off 45 balls to control the innings.

Captain Sophie Molineux played a supporting role to Irvine and finished with 24 off 35 balls.

With the ball, Tayla Vlaeminck was the star for Victoria, finishing the innings with figures of four overs 4-15 and also featured in the field taking a catch.

Victoria Invitational XI continued their unlucky run as they had a winless day against NSW Metro and Queensland in their two matches.

In the first match of the day, NSW Metro batted first to post a score of 9-114, in reply Victoria Invitational XI didn’t get going and where bowled out for 50.

Madeleine Clayton was the standout performer in the game for Victorian Invitational XI, as she finished her four-over spell with figures of 3-22.

The girls were looking to bounce back in their second match of the day against Queensland.

Victorian Invitational XI batted first and posted 7-78 off their 20 overs, this wasn’t enough as Queensland passed the total in the 17th off with just five wickets down.

Grace Mills top scored with the bat for Victorian Invitational XI with 17 off 19 deliveries.

Spinner Erika Quinn bowled a superb four over spell; she ended with figures of 2-11 off her four overs.

The Victorian side will take on South Australia at the Northern Oval today while the Victorian Invitational XI will look to bounce back against Tasmania at Napoleons Turf.
